After an excellent start to their Stuart Robertson cup campaign, the Lynx hopes of qualifying for the later stages were given a setback last week by a resurgent Kestrel’s side who inflicted a shock  6-1 defeat on the Lynx. This result and the subsequent victory for the Tigers against the Comets still means any of the teams can still mathematically qualify so this weekend’s games have everything to play for.

As it stands, the Lynx are on 6 points the Comets are on 5 and the Tigers on 4 both Comets have a games in hand and Tigers have 2. There are various permutations of qualification and Saturday’s Tigers V Comets fixture will have an impact, but the simple fact is that if the Lynx win on Saturday they are through.

With The Lynx recent form being excellent, last weeks result was a surprise and although on paper it looked like a heavy defeat it was a very even contest. I for one, after watching the first 2 periods expected the Lynx to continue to dominate and go on to win the fixture comfortably in the last period but in the end the opposite happened! I felt the team didn’t play poorly but, the Lynx were heavily punished for lack of focus at critical times and by the Kestrels converting most of the chances they had.

For this weeks clash against the Comets, the Lynx will need to work hard and reignite their form to high level to compete and get the result they desire.

These games are always high intensity affairs and hopefully the Lynx will have a full bench for this critical encounter be up for the task and get the right result.

Victory for either side will guarantee qualification.

We caught up with Coach Reynolds and asked him about the season so far?:

“It’s been a fairly good start to the season but the main thing is there’s still plenty of room for improvement. Our new players are all fitting in well and we’re beginning to see a little bit of chemistry develop. We’ve had a few injuries to deal with and we’re always going to have boys offshore at various points in the season so having that extra depth has been a real boost. It’s also given a lot of the new boys a chance to get some decent ice time and show what they can do.”

Asking him directly about the game on Sunday being like a mini final with the winner taking all,  Did he expect his players to revel in that situation and produce the performance they deserve?

Obviously the Comets are very good team but I doubt what’s at stake will phase us too much. We got off to slow start against them in our season opener but proved we could compete with them as the game went on. After a solid win against the Kestrels at home I think we took the away fixture for granted. We got a bit complacent and turned the puck over too easily. It’s something to learn from as we look to bounce back this Sunday’

With both sides having quality players in depth in their squads this should be an entertaining and exciting fixture. The SNL is getting better and better providing quality entertainment with all the games in this draw have beeing very competitive.

The Game on Sunday is at Dundee Ice Arena following the Elite League Stars v Steelers Game face off is at 8.30.
