Hat Trick for Malcolm

@BritIceHockey The Lynx continued their unbeaten run and consolidated their position at the top of the SNL with a 10-2 winning performance over Kilmarnock Storm.

The Lynx had a shortish bench and were missing coach Carnegie but Assistant Coach #21 Owen Reynolds did a great job of organising the side to get the job done.

It didn’t take long for the Lynx to get on the scoreboard with the familiar site of #8 Jordan Leyden scoring assisted by #57 Iain Malcolm & #19 Mark Laing in the first couple of minutes of the game. Unfortunately for Kilmarnock they only needed to wait another couple of minutes untill #8 Leyden’s next shift for him to net again assisted by #19 Laing. It didn’t get any better for Killie, straight from the face off #12 Ross McIntosh making it 3-0 a minute later.

The Lynx continued to dominate 4 minutes later the Lynx were awarded a Power Play and #57 Malcolm finished off some fine puck movement by #19 Laing and #8 Leyden to make it 4-0.

Further excitement was instore for the large 700 plus crowd when #21 Owen Reynolds was awarded a penalty shot when Kilmarnock’s #39 Myles Watson infringed on a breakaway. Reynolds produced a classy finish to make it 5-0 to the Lynx.

Kilmarnock started the 2nd period well and managed to compete with the Lynx for possession but the Lynx finally broke through when another PP was awarded when Kilmarnocks #3 Chris Underwood was penalised for holding #8 Leyden. Some nice puck movement by the MacEachran brothers (#11 &#27) was beautifully finished by #57 Malcolm for his second of the night to make it 6-0.

Kilmarnock continued to compete well and pulled one back when an opportunistic shot straight from the face off in theLynx end by #23 Iain Forsyth beat an unsighted Chalmers in the Lynx Goal. It took another 8  minutes until #92 Lewis McIntosh combined with #12 Rosss McIntosh to make it 7-1.

Killie again got on the scoreboard when #10 Craig McKenzie scored on the PP when #57 Malcolm was penalised for a spurious hooking call, to make it 7-2.

Reynolds scored a great Penalty Shot

Business as usual in the third for the Lynx when #19 Laing arguably scored the goal of the night after ripping a solo effort past #41 Blackwell in the Killie net to make it 8-2.

#5 Aaron Thomson (who worked tirelessly all evening) beuatifully set up #12 McIntosh in front of goal who after what best could be described as a fumble shot/pass was finally buried by  #92 McIntosh to make it 9-2.

The familiar trio of #19 Laing, #8 Leyden and #57 Malcolm combined again to make it a hat trick for Man of the Match #57 Malcolm and a convincing 10-2 victory for the Lynx.

The Lynx have now consolidated their position at the top of the SNL 4 points ahead of Paisley who have 3 games in hand.

The Lynx’s next game will be against away at Paisley on the 7th of January (who in theory by then could be equal on points with the Lynx with 1 game in hand) making this fixture an incredibly important one for the Lynx’s title aspirations. I’m sure we will have a great travelling support to support our team and continue our success in to 2017.
